Day2 Alesund

I was awakened during the night by a brilliant light shing into the cabin. We had stopped at a LPG rig which was working under floodlights. I was able to go off to sleep again and woke again to a glorious dawn. The photos will have to wait until I find better WIFI as they are taking forever to upload.

This afternoon I went on a tour of Alesund. It is a very pretty and unusual town. It appears that in 1906 the town suffered a sort of Arndale style disaster. i.e. There was a disastrous fire which flattened the city. 10000 people were left homeless but this stimulated some of the most influential architects of the day to rebuild the city in an Art Nouneau style. In the main these buildings still stand so what is basically just a fishing port is an architectural gem!

The other interesting thing about it is that my Stressless chairs were made here!
