On our last night in Quito a special dinner had been planned. We were to be entertained and dined at a very ancient convent. When we arrived we discovered that it was one of those dinners where we were the entertainment. We were to play the part of the nuns and monks who had originally built and lived in the convent.
We all found this amusing. . . . .to begin with! But it all went terribly wrong! We were dragged around this draghty stone building , getting hungrier and more bored by the minute. We almost had a mutiny!
The sad thing was that the organisers had made a lot of effort wanting us to enjoy it. I am realising that this is typical of the locals in general. They really want tourists and try so hard to get it right. I find the lack of sophistication really endearing.
We were outside the Presidential Palace for the changing of the guard. The video perhaps demonstrates what I mean.
