Portofino.

Today we were supposed to go by boat to the Cinque Terre. However the day dawned windy and a storm was threatened, so El Capitano he say “Non”! The new plan was to take the shorter ferry ride to Portofino.

Portofino is Italy’s answer to St Tropez. The beautiful people moor their yachts in the lovely sheltered bay and the village welcomes them with all the exclusive shops their hearts could desire. Ferragamo is here, as is Longchamp, Pucci, Gucci et al!

The village is a perfect setting, wooded hills around a perfect horseshoe shaped bay, overlooked by a romantic old castle at one end and a charming Victorian Villa at the other.

The day turned out dry and sunny so a good day was had by all.

A local tradition is to decorate one’s  property with 3 dimensional paintings of non existent windows, balconies etc. It is sometimes hard to tell the real windows from the fakes!

Tomorrow we are to definately go to Cinque Terre, by hook or by crook. By boat or by train tomorrow is Cinque Terre!
