Rotorua.

This is the wierdest place I have been to yet! The hotel and the village are actually within the crater of a volcano. The volcano is extinct ish, but in many areas the earth’s crust is so thin that if you were to stand on it you would drop through into boiling mud!

These areas are fortunately fenced off!

The pools of water are literally boiling. The local villagers cook in wooden boxes on the ground. In places the underground heat escapes in geysers that can rise 30/40 ft in the air.

The Maori are very proud of their culture and invited us to a show. Unlike many of these folklorico shows this one was fresh and delightful.
