China (week 1)


We arrived in Beijing early this morning. At first sightBeijing looks like any other modern overcrowded city with its tower buildings and vast blocks of flats. I connected to the hotel internet and am receiving a strong signal. However this is when I realised what a different city this is. Despite the strong signal I cannot access Facebook, Whatsapp, Wikipedia, Google or

Chinese citizens are not supposed to know what goes on in the rest of the world!

It is now a public park receiving 50,000 visitors per day. After seeing them en famille and en masse, I realise that the Chinese are not inscrutable at all. They are in fact noisy, lively and jolly.

Boating on the vast man made lake is very popular. It is a bit like Heaton Park on Whit Monday!

But with dragons!
